Joan Aleshires verse is virtually stimulate- little girl relationship. The speaker shows the strong emotions that she feels almost her set out. The speaker loves her father interchangeable in the first stanza: sequence comes to my father as a inert slipping: the tholepin that weakens will barely support him, the curtain of mist that go over one eye. Years, like pickpockets, lift his concentration, memory, fine brain of direction. The car, as he drives, drifts from lane to lane like a raft on a river, speeds and slows for no reason, keeps lacking(p) turns. She tells his health condition and how his father suffers from the changes that hes going through. In the second stanza: As my mother says, Hes never liked, to talk about feelings, but tonight out walking, slow to match his paceâ€" his left leg trailing a little like a child who keeps pulling on your handâ€"he says, I love you so much.  Her father is now more open about her and they are qualified to say I love you to each other. Despite of the convinced(p) feelings expressed by his father in that location is negative emotions rill in her head. There is a symbolism in the poem like stethoscope like a pet snake.



Stethoscope means his puppylike age and snake means temptation his father was tempted in his work, he spend his whole life to his work and forgot that there is a family waiting for him. There is also comparison of the father and the line: The car, as he drives, drifts from lane to lane like a raft on a river, speeds and slows for no reason, keeps missing turns. The father lost his direction and forgot his responsibility as a husband and father. Time taken her fathers strength, that her daughter doesnt give a chance to know anything about her father.  I think,

Despite of all the flaws of his father she forgive and deliver him whole-hearted even though their relationship has been filled with years of restrains. The ageing helps to forgive, accept and let go of the past.
