DESCRIPTION. Italian 101 is for beginners with no previous experience in the lyric poem. You will begin to acquire survival level conversational skills and learn to read and write simple texts in shew time well enough to carry out the occasion tasks of day-after-day life. You will also learn about roughly salient aspects of Italian culture. Grammar topics include the present tense verbs, adjectives, and otherwise basic structures. Language laboratory work is needed (see to a lower place for details). Readings will be assigned each week from the a reader and from Ciao 6th edition website at hypertext transfer protocol://ciao.heinle.com.
LEARNING GOALS. By the end of this course, students should be able to:
(1) to sway themselves --orally and in writing-- in simple phrases and sentences concerning personal data and daily activities, schedules.
(2) to understand short, formulaic and/or contextualized simple questions, statements, and phrases referring to personal randomness and their familiar environments, in both written and auditory form.
(3) to demonstrate restraint of vocabulary covering a limited fly the coop of concrete topics.
(4) to reveal conceptual awareness and partial control of basic and high frequency grammatical elements, such as the present tense, articles, and adjectives.
(5) to show incipient awareness of common features of Italian culture and cross-cultural contrasts.
COURSE COMPONENTS & REQUIREMENTS:
First five chapters of Percorsi: LItalia attraverso la lingua e la cultura. (see below for details).

Italian is the official language of the class.
2 oral assignments.
5 creative writing assignments, ranging from 25 60 words.
Three (3) 50-minute exams, give at approximately 3-week intervals.
final examination exam during finals week as per the Registrars schedule.
